LET'S BE MERMAIDS - COPENHAGEN DAY1

Updated: Jul 7, 2019

Last week was time for #Alllooora3.0.

Those of you who have followed early on know that #Alllooora is my 3-day city break away with my #bff Alcestis, in celebration of her birthday. This year the location was Copenhagen.

Let me share with you the best spots we hit as inspiration in case you visit.

This is the Danish National Art Library located at Nyhavn. The library itself was closed at the time we visited, but the yard space surrounded by the library building was a miracle in itself. We checked in at the cafe and stayed for a long and lazy time surrounded by beautiful architecture and ivy climbing up to adorn it.

Nyhavn 's characteristic site is of course the colored houses at the canal. It is quite touristy, but you can' t go to Copenhagen and not drop by Nyhavn for a pic.

Following on from Kunst Biblioteket and the colored houses in Nyhavn, we went on walking by the canal. We found a nice ceramics atelier/shop where apart from the items on sale you get to see the artist' s workspace and fresh clay items resting to dry. Quite inspiring.

At Trine Fournais Ceramics studio is where I saw this book about Hygge: The Little Book Of Hygge. As per the description on the book cover, Hygge is the Danish way to live well. After this, we got a bit of a fixation with Hygge, such that we ended up buying the book.

After Nyhavn we walked down to Holmen, that used to house the Naval Base, and now houses new creative spaces and workshops as well as free style residences. And then we walked to Christiania to see the Free Town where hippies used to be the only inhabitants. Christiania was the free state within the Danish state. Well, in my opinion this is a big DON'T. The situation in Christiania nowadays is too dirty, too left out, too left behind, with people who are worn out of drugs and alcohol. At least this was the situation we encountered on the day we visited. But outside the Free Town on the street, there are some great graffiti murals.

Afterwards, we went to Cafe Atelier September to unwind. Afternoon mint tea and fresh rhubarb soda was in order.

And later on, dinner at #Baest. This is an italian tratoria located in Nørrebro, that is the brainchild of Christian Puglisi, the ex-chef of famous Noma restaurant. Apart from making one of the world' s top notch pizzas, the restaurant also runs its own charcuterie, makes and sells its own mozzarella cheese and swears by organic ingredients.

On Day 2, waking up to this view was totally exhilarating.

The sea view from Admiral Hotel

Al had picked the hotel and I must say that her choice was great in the sense that it was in super location, walking distance from many points of interest like Nyhavn, Danmark Design Museum, the Little Mermaid, Holmen etc. Our room was small but recently renovated with carefully designed details, Nordic style. And balanced price-wise.

Day 2 to follow shortly - stay tuned.
